Aarit, Atula and Vinod

Atula is an educator and a researcher by profession. She also volunteers with organisations working for children and women. Vinod heads the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in his position as the Country Representative in Mongolia, where they both currently live. Their son lives and studies in the USA.

"A truly independent country is one in which freedom is shared equally amongst all its citizens. Unfortunately, a gap in this freedom still persists in India between women and men. Whether it is education, healthcare, nutrition, marriage, or simply, the opportunity to live life on their own terms, a lot of women still do not have the freedom to make decisions for themselves. Therefore, we pledge that during our lifetime, we will use more than 50% of our net worth to empower the girl child by offering her educational opportunities so she can have greater agency and choice. We promise to fully fund primary, secondary, and higher education, as well as vocational and skill development training for deserving female candidates who aspire to fly but lack the means. Marcus Aurelius once said, “the only wealth you keep forever is the wealth you share”. To educate a girl is to educate the future. What better way can there be then to preserve our wealth forever?"
