Giving has always been a part of my life, though until now, I have done it in bits and pieces in my personal capacity. Over the last two years, I have spent time reflecting on what giving means to me and how I want it to be a more intentional and disciplined part of my life. I come from a family that was not particularly affluent, but I grew up believing deeply in sharing what we have and in the joy and meaning that comes from giving. For me, philanthropy is not just about giving money; it is about being responsible for the privilege we have and ensuring that some part of what we build can create opportunities and dignity for others.
I may have only a little today, but I believe giving should not have to wait until we have more. What matters to me is beginning with what I have, making a wholehearted commitment and building a life where generosity is not an afterthought but a part of who I am.
My own lived experiences and years of being an active volunteer across organisations and causes have shaped this belief deeply. Working closely with grassroots NGOs and spending time on the ground has given me a deeper understanding of the realities people face and the importance of empathy, inclusion and creating opportunities for others. These experiences have stayed with me and are a big part of what led me to make this decision today.
As I step into my 30s tomorrow, I cannot think of a more meaningful milestone than making this promise.
