Parag Agarwal - Impact Story

It took just one video—showing the reality of what cows endure to produce milk—for me to drop dairy entirely from my diet. But changing my own choices wasn’t enough. I knew I had to advocate for animal rights, especially for animals in factory farms, who are raised for milk and meat.

The cruelty, confinement and suffering they face is horrific, and I believed the cause deserved a larger platform. That’s why, in 2022, I founded India Animal Fund (https://indiaanimalfund.org/): to unify the animal welfare movement in India, amplify our collective voice, and pool resources to bring dignity to the lives of the voiceless animals.

Through our NGO partners executing initiatives on the ground, we address the root of the problem by funding and promoting programs across policy, awareness and diet-change.

Policy Impact

  • Issued 750+ notices to shut down non-compliant dairies

  • Curbed illegal Oxytocin use in Delhi — 1,600 bottles seized, 12 arrests

  • Mobilised authorities to rescue 2,800 cattle from illegal clusters in drains and sewage

Awareness campaign through the India Karuna Collaborative

  • A recently launched initiative, the India Karuna Collaborative (IKC) (https://indiakarunacollaborative.org/) brings together people and organisations to seize a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end animal suffering, mitigate climate change, and create a healthier world for all. We invite business leaders and influential voices across industry to support the campaign by signing a simple yet powerful pledge:

“I believe that animals are sentient beings and that human, animal, and planetary well-being are interconnected. When animals suffer, people and the planet suffer too. I pledge to do my best to reduce animal suffering.”

Since September 2025, the campaign has already garnered the support of 45+ respected leaders, including the CEOs of HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Consumer, Tata Chemicals, HDFC AMC, Kotak AMC, and has eight prominent persons as Advisors. Pledge your support here. (https://indiakarunacollaborative.org/)

Diet-Change

  • Trained 4,500 physicians and medical professionals on how plant-based diets prevent, reverse, and manage lifestyle diseases

  • Educated 300,000+ students on plant-based diets and their positive impact on health, climate, and the planet

Through this, my goal is to help make animal welfare a recognised and mainstream cause.
